Social simulation as a scientific tool requires the development of credible behaviours for agents simulating the behaviour of human actors. One way to improve the credibility of the simulations obtained is to integrate cognitive, emotional and social dimensions into agents' decision-making. However, developing agents with these dimensions can be complicated for social science researchers who do not have expert knowledge of computer programming. The BEN architecture (Behavior with Emotions and Norms) integrates emotional and social dimensions into decision making based on a BDI architecture for an application in the field of social simulations. This modular architecture is based on a formalization of the cognitive, affective and social dimensions. BEN is implemented in the GAMA multi-agent modeling and simulation platform and used on an example case of nightclub evacuation.
