Os discursos de tomada de posse dos Primeiros ministros portugueses (2002-2011). Comparação entre esquerda e direita

Abstract : This paper examines the lexicon and the arguments of the investiture speeches of the Portuguese prime Ministers from 2002 to 2011. It shows significant differences between left and right wing speeches and emphasizes the strong argumentative function of words such as Estado, modernização, and abertura (State, modernisation and opening). It also highlights the dialogic relations for critical discourse of the previous speeches. However, the speeches show great similarities with regard to 3 points : the image of Portugal, the softening of the economical crisis and the proposals to face the crisis. Thus the citizens may not perceive what distinguishes the right and left very well, which may encourage skepticism and voter apathy.
